Welcome to Walmgate Day Nursery Ltd, we are a 42 place day nursery situated in the historic part of York known as Walmgate, which is a short walk from the City Centre.
The building is several hundred years old but has been converted to form a modern day care facility that meets all requirements, yet retains character and a nice homely feel. As we are in a centre location we only have a small outdoor play area but this has been designed to maximise the use of space so each child will benefit from some outdoor play each day. In addition to the outdoor area, children enjoy regular outings and visits to local attractions such as Jorvik Centre and Castle Museum. The nursery also has the use of five drop off and pick up parking spaces for use by our customers.
We have three separate rooms which accommodate three separate age ranges, a Baby Room for ages from 3 month to 2 years, a 2-3 years Tweenies Room and a Pre-School Room for children from 3-5 years. The ratio of staff to children within the Nursery is in accordance with Ofsted requirements and we employ qualified and experienced staff.
Our aim is to provide the best quality childcare in a stimulating environment with lots of learning opportunities. We aim to achieve this by:
Providing an informal yet stimulating environment enabling each child to develop skills and acquire knowledge at their own individual pace
Offer opportunities to explore and develop
Form good relationships between staff parents and other children
Providing for emotional, social and physical needs.
The Baby Room 3 months to 2 years
The nursery has a separate baby unit which accommodates 12 babies up to the age of 2 years. They are able to transfer up to the 2-3 years (tweenies room) at any time from 18 months to 2 years and this will be judged on each childs individual needs and stage of development.
The Tweenies Room 2-3 years
We have a well equipped 15 place Tweenie Room, with separate areas to explore sand, water, painting and play dough. The main room has a designated area for construction and small world toys and there is a quiet area for books and to have a well earned rest. We work on the Early Years Foundation Stage with each child and now registered to two year old funding from the government for those children who are eligable for this provision. We aim to integrate your child into the Pre-school Room at 3 years 3 months or as soon after this as is practicably possible.
The Pre-school Room 3-5 years
We have 15 places in our well equipped pre-school room where planned learning activities are prepared. The activities are planned around the seven areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage which encourages children to achieve Early Learning Goals. As we are working towards these goals we are registered to take three and four year old funding from the Government. Below you will find a breakdown of each of the seven areas with a brief description.
